Haley and I started this year sitting on the couch watching T.V. without a care in the world; we're ending it with 80 new animals and no time to ourselves and empty wallets because it all goes to feed for our animals.
I just can not believe all that has happened this year. I graduated and aged out of 4-H after 11 years in the program, Haley started high school and joined FFA where she won 1st place in Showmanship at her first show ever, Haley and I started our own breeding program, and built $6,000 worth of pens.....
I am so thankful for the opportunities we have had to make this spur of the moment dream come true. It has been a wild ride so far and we are only at the beginning. What started as 2 dogs, 7 mutt goats, and a few fair animals has since turned into 50+ goats, 4 mini pigs, 10 ducks, a donkey, two more puppies, and a horse.
Haley is working on a welding project to sell at the California Mid-State Fair. Last year she made a barn style dog house. She will be starting her project in May so keep your eye out for updates.
Looking to next year Haley and I have some big goals we want to accomplish.
We are pushing for a Grand Champion animal at one of the five fairs we'll be attending
Finish building our pens
- Get permanent roofing over the pens
- Get power to the pens
Make feeding pens so the goats can eat separately
Get a second protection donkey for when the goats are in the pasture
Fairs we will be attending:
Salinas Valley Fair with a pig
California Mid-State Fair with a goat
Monterey County Fair with a goat
Santa Cruz County Fair with a goat
San Benito County Fair with a goat or a pig
